Jill Ford
The windswept Yorkshire coastline is a source of inspiration, where the sky constantly changes and fleeting sweeps of light flash along the horizon far out at sea.

Much of my work is thrown on the wheel. Porcelain is a fabulous clay to throw it is smooth and silken. However it is also a hard taskmaster and collapses easily. After drying out, the pots are turned to delineate gentle curves so that the vase feels full and round when held. The glaze I work with has a white silky surface, like pebbles on a beach. I paint on copper oxide to give texture as well as decoration.

Texture and decoration are added with the use of slips, oxides and glazes. Jill applies contrasting glazes and slips, building up layers of decoration to create visually enticing surfaces.
